Accident and Emergency Overnight Closure Imminent

Attached is a letter we have been made aware of from Chief Executive of Weston General Hospital, James Rimmer.

It confirms our worst fears about the safety of our Accident and Emergency at our local Hospital. From July 4th it will be closed from 10pm until 8am every night.

We received assurances less than a week ago that the A&E department wasn't under immediate threat and today we have received this terrible news for local people.

This does not reflect well on NHS management. As Weston's population grows it needs more health services not fewer. Around 40 people a day use the A&E service between 10pm and 8am.

This decision could put lives at risk. Weston Labour Party will be campaigning for a reversal of this decision

We would ask you all to share this so that the whole of Weston-super-Mare is made aware. This action is down to one thing and that is the continued attempts of John Penrose MP and his Conservative colleagues to break apart our NHS and starve it of the funds it needs
