5 Things You Can Do!

Five Things New Members Can Do

Just joined and want to find where to begin? Here’s what you can do right now, to get the most from your membership.

Meet Other Local Party Members

Your Local Contact is a fantastic first port of call when you’re finding your place in the party. Not only do they have a wealth of knowledge about how the party works, but they’re the fantastic volunteers who give their free time to arrange your local get-togethers. So whether you want to join in the informal 'Cafe Politics' or' Politics In the Pub', come to the next Quiz or Skittles night, try out our 'Women's Group'  or invite your fellow members to an upcoming march or event, they’re the person you want to chat to.

Get Connected

It may sound obvious, but the best way to stay up to date with everything that’s happening is to make sure you’re connected with the party. Like us on Facebook (nationally and locally), follow us on Twitter and make sure to keep logging in to Weston Labour for regular updates.

Start Shaping Labour’s Policy

Labour policy is decided by an open, democratic process involving all parts of the party. We shape policy online, in local parties, and at our Annual Conference. Policy discussions take place at your local branch or CLP meetings. You can find out when your next CLP or branch meeting is by checking the 'calendar' or 'events' tab or getting in touch with your named branch contact or CLP Secretary

Share Your Knowledge

As with any large movement, we’re only as good as the sum of our parts. Not only that, but we’re only as good as the skills and abilities we use. So don’t be humble, let us know! If you’re an expert coder, why not offer to re-vamp your local party website? Bags of charisma and a thirst for general knowledge? You could offer to host a pub quiz. DIY enthusiasts can make placards for demonstrations. Walkers can deliver leaflets, bakers can do a bake sale fundraiser! There is no limit to the skills, ideas and enthusiasm of our members.

Go along to your next meeting, introduce yourself, and find out how you can best put your skills to use.

Set Yourself A Goal

You’ve joined the party and you’re ready to fight for a Labour Government. To harness this feeling, why not set yourself a list of goals for your membership?

Whether your aim is going to a meeting in your first month, volunteering on the doorstep by month six, or standing for election within 18 months, setting yourself a target will help motivate you on our road to the next General Election.

As the largest political organisation in the UK, there’s no skill we don’t collectively possess, and no member who can’t make a difference. It just takes the confidence and a commitment to make it happen. So why don’t you make today the day you start?

Get in touch with your Local Contact in your branch. If you do not know which is your local branch than contact CLP Secretary.
