Weston-super-Mare Constituency Labour Party Autumn 2017 Newsletter

What a fantastic Summer it has been for Weston-super-Mare CLP!

Our gazebo has been out and about in town and at events across the constituency and our membership has grown to well over 700!

We’ve fought a fantastic general election campaign with Tim Taylor as our candidate; increasing our vote by 12,000 from the 2015 General Election and taking a strong second place that sets up up well to take the constituency from the Conservatives in the next Election.

We've attended several high profile marches,in London and Bristol including #NotOneMoreDay and #BristolEndAusterity, and we continue to campaign against the overnight closure of Weston General's Accident and Emergency Department

The season culminated in our great win of the North Worle town and district election!  Congratulations to Councillor Denise Hunt on a fantastic campaign, and for taking both the town and district council seats from what was, formerly, an area considered to be natural Tory territory.

I am sure you are as excited as I am with the success of the party locally, and the changes we can help bring about.

We also had our AGM, with new Executive and Functional Officers elected.  If you want help, advice, or information about any aspect of your local Labour Party, please contact the Chair, Dave Townsend, or the CLP Secretary, Annie Higgs, who will put you in touch with the right officer.  We are a very active constituency and always welcoming to new members so please do get in touch with any ideas or suggestions.

In September, at the monthly all member meeting of the CLP, we had an illuminating presentation from the local WASPI group (Women Against State Pension Inequality) and a discussion on which of 5 motions we were going to enter for consideration at the Conference this year.

PS: Remember - the easiest way to make a regular donation to the local party and be in a chance of winning cash prizes is to join the 500 club. This is our local lottery game, with a MUCH better chance of winning than any commercial lotteries on offer.  Most entrants donate between £5 and £20 a month.  Just set up a standing order for between £1-£500 per month.
Then contact fundraising@westonlabour.org.uk with your preferred contact details to receive instructions on how to set up a standing order and to receive your lucky numbers.
