Where we stand

Our manifesto for a better, fairer Britain

This is our vision for a country that works for the many, not just the privileged few. With Labour, we’ll build a country where we invest our wealth to give everyone the best chance. That means building the homes we need to rent and buy, keeping our communities safe with more police officers, giving our children’s schools the funding they badly need, and restoring the NHS to its place as the envy of the world.

Since becoming a parent 16 years ago, I have taken a stronger interest in politics and how they affect society. I try to teach my children not to follow what the majority think, but to research and create their own opinions. We have seen huge changes in public services, which many of our family and friends work in. And with children being failed on so many levels, we see this can only be causing more difficulties in future. I was an educator in secondary schools for 10 years, children are the future, they need to be supported, valued and shown how to make positive choices, but also how to deal with the fallout of less positive choices. This is being missed, schools are having their funding stripped so that basic education is all that survives, but for a child to become a successful adult, they need much more than an exam result, they need psychological support, sen support, relationship support, a happy child is more likely to become a well rounded successful adult. Mental health services for children is almost non existent, and if we can’t help them now, then the issues are only going to increase going into adulthood.
